Quick answer
For most saloon cars in Lagos, a set of brake pads for one axle costs ₦25,000 to ₦40,000. Newer models (2018 and up) and Lexus cars cost more, roughly ₦45,000 to ₦95,000.
That is the part only. Labour is extra and varies by workshop.

| Part | Price range |
|---|---|
| Brake disc, Toyota Corolla | ₦50,000 – ₦150,000 |

Discs don't need changing every time you change pads. If the mechanic says yours do, ask why. Deep grooves, a lip on the edge or a shaking steering wheel when you brake are fair reasons. See car shaking when braking.
Signs your brake pads are finished
- Squealing when you brake. Many pads have a small metal tab that squeals on purpose when they get thin.
- Grinding. That is metal on metal. Change the pads now, before they damage the discs and the bill doubles.
- Longer stopping, or the pedal goes further down than before.
- The car pulls to one side when you brake.
- The brake warning light is on (some cars have a pad wear sensor).
Lagos traffic is hard on brakes. All that stop and go wears pads faster than open road driving, so check them at every service.
How to avoid paying for brakes you didn't get
- Ask which axle. Front pads wear faster than rear pads. You may only need one set.
- See the box. Ask for the new pads in their packaging before they go on, so you know the brand.
- Keep the old pads. Ask for them back. It's the easiest proof the job was done.
- Skip tokunbo pads. Used pads are cheap for a reason. Buy new.
- Check the price first. Send Clutch your car and the quote before you pay.
Questions drivers ask
How much are brake pads for a Toyota Corolla in Lagos?
For a 2005 to 2018 Corolla, one axle set costs about ₦25,000 to ₦40,000 from Lagos sellers. Genuine Toyota pads for a 2020 or newer Corolla are around ₦80,000. Labour is extra.
Should I change front and rear brake pads together?
Not always. Front pads usually wear out first because they do most of the braking. Change the pair on the same axle together, and check the other axle while the wheels are off.
Is a grinding noise when braking dangerous?
Yes. Grinding usually means the pad material is gone and metal is touching the disc. Your car will take longer to stop, and the discs get damaged. Get it checked straight away.
Why does the mechanic want to change my discs too?
Worn discs with deep grooves, a raised lip on the edge, or a shaking steering wheel when braking are good reasons. If none of those apply, ask the mechanic to show you the problem before you agree.
